In-School Health Services
It is the goal of In-School Health Services to assure that each child's healthcare needs are met by providing healthcare services, supporting the physician/patient relationship, and creating a link to a physician if none exists. Services are provided by a nurse practitioner, a physician medical director, nurse and medical office assistant.
Services include:
- Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of minor illness and injury
- Identification of conditions that may need further referral such as asthma, diabetes, and high blood pressure
- Athletic and routine physicals
- Immunizations
- Health screenings
- Support of students and parents
- Individual and group health education
- Management of chronic illnesses
- Mental health counseling/referrals as necessary
Services NOT available:
- Family planning
- Hospital Care
- Treatment for complex medical or psychiatric disorders
- X-rays
Why program is offered:
- To improve the healthcare of the community
- To ensure that no child is excluded from school
- To meet the demand for services that have been identified by a majority of parents/guardians and teachers surveyed
- To keep children in school, healthy and ready to learn
Participation is open to each student (of the schools we serve) whose parent or guardian has completed a student health history form and a consent form. All healthcare information will be shared with the child's primary physician. If the parent or guardian identifies no physician, a referral will be offered.
